The Beqaa Governorate covers the central and southern Beqaa Valley, the broad inland plain between the Mount Lebanon range and the Anti-Lebanon. Its capital is Zahle, the valley’s main city. The cazas are Zahle, West Bekaa, and Rachaya. This is Lebanon’s main farming region — fruit, vegetables, and vineyards — with the Litani River and Lake Qaraoun in the south, and the eastern slopes rising toward Mount Hermon around Rachaya. Baalbek and Hermel used to be counted with the Beqaa; they are now their own governorate to the north.
