North Governorate occupies the coast and mountains north of Batroun, with Tripoli as its capital and Lebanon’s second-largest city. Its cazas are Tripoli, El Koura, Zgharta, Bcharre, El Batroun, and El Minieh-Dennie. The region runs from the olive groves of Koura and the old port of Batroun up to the Qadisha Valley and the Cedars near Bcharre. Akkar used to be part of the north and is now its own governorate.
