Akkar is Lebanon’s northernmost governorate, created when the old Akkar district was separated from North Lebanon. Its capital is Halba. Most of it is rural and agricultural, running from the northern coast up toward the highlands along the Syrian border. It is a single caza, Akkar, made of many villages rather than one large city.
